Hello, I’m Tina from Sydney, Australia and here is my food story. Heavily influenced by my Italian Grandparents, I grew up watching my Nonna & Nonno grow their own vegetables, fruit trees and flowers. Being in their garden was a daily ritual for them, like brushing teeth. I would stay with them most school holidays, pick salad greens for dinner, feed the chooks, collect the eggs and help water the garden. I learnt where my food came from and formed my own very special connection to the earth. It’s this mindfulness that inspires me to cook with and respect what nature offers each season. Even though my own garden is small, I just love growing and visiting the farmers market – my inspiration.
I don’t follow any dietary “rules”, however some years ago I decided to eat more plants. So the dishes you see here are what I like to call “plant forward”. They are seasonal, often vegetarian or vegan and sometimes gluten free. I also happen to have a big sweet tooth, so expect to find quite a few desserts ranging from layer cakes to raw desserts.
Prior to starting a family I was a Graphic Designer, something I never went back to after having my three boys. While nap time was still a thing, I picked up my first camera – a Canon 600D with a kit lens. Apart from a little film photography in design school I had no experience and was so determined to learn all I could. It was a slow process, with plenty of ups and downs. Eventually I was able to shoot in manual mode. I taught myself how to build a website and The Barefoot Housewife was born. Largely self taught I wasn’t content that I knew enough, so recently completed my Diploma in Photography and Digital Imaging.
I now shoot with a Canon 5D111 and a range of different lenses, including Canon 50mm 1.8, Canon Macro 100mm 2.8, Sigma 35mm 1.4 and Canon 24-70mm 2.8.
As a passionate food stylist I’ve been known to become rather obsessed with finding the perfect prop (aka ice cream scoop). I’ve now built up quite a collection from various Op Shops and garage sales. I love the patina and story that vintage objects bring to every image and love using them.
Thank you for stopping by and if you have any questions or would like to work with me (you can view more of my work here) please drop me an email [email protected] I would love to hear from you!
